Dear Pastor and Praying Friends,

We have been in Thailand for 5 months and want to share with you what has been happening.

Many of you know that political protest started once again in March and ended in May we thank the Lord for keeping us safe from being caught in any of the protests and rioting that happened here in Chiang Mai. Thank you for the phone calls and emails asking about our safety and praying for us.

In our last prayer letter we asked for you to help us pray that the Lord will give us fruit from passing out tracts to every house and everyone we see. As a result of your prayers and support:

  1. Several people have mailed in response cards from the tracts.
  2. Last week we gave tracts to a group of teens hanging out and playing soccer. When we came back one of them was trying to ask us about the tract. While we were trying to understand what he was asking, it started raining and he had to go before it started raining heavier because he was on a motorcycle. We asked him to send in the response card to find out more. Please pray that he will send in the response card so we can send him some Bible material and have contact with him.
  3. In one of our email updates we asked for people to help us pray for Mr. Thep and his wife Pat that we meet also while passing out tracts. Since we first meet them, they have came several times and for the last 3 weeks in a row they have been coming to the church we are attending.

At the New Life Baptist Church that we are attending we have been helping with a 12 month campaign. Each month will have a question of the month that will build one upon another and present the Gospel to the Thai people. Once everything has been designed and printed we will be passing out the question of the month in a newsletter which will give the question and invite people to come to a special meeting where the question will be answered from the Word of God. Please pray that God will use these questions to penetrate the souls of the Thai people with His Word.

Just last week we were right behind 2 major wrecks and was told that a women died in one of the wrecks. Driving is often dangerous because people pass each other whenever and wherever they want and expect you to move out of the way no matter what. We have been told that driving will get more dangerous during the rainy season which is usually from July to October. Please continue to pray for our safety and thank you for our birthday cards and gifts, continuing faithful monthly support, and your prayers.

If you have not already, please visit our blog site at www.mcclains4asia.wordpress.com and sign up for our email updates.

Prayer Request Praise!

March 22, 2010

We want to thank each of you that helped pray with us for Mr. Thep and his wife Pat that they would come to church on Sunday. They are a Thai contact that we made while visiting two Saturdays ago.

The Lord heard our prayers and we were able to follow them up on Saturday and Mr. Thep said for sure we will be there on Sunday. Then on Sunday they were at the church we are attending for Sunday School and the Morning Service. After service they asked if we have a Wednesday Night Service.  They have not been going to church recently so continue to pray that we will see them added to the church and serve the Lord here.

Thank you for being co-laborers with us as we serve our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

Prayer Request

March 18, 2010

Swatdii Khrap-Hello From Thailand.

We are asking you to help us pray before Saturday night eastern standard time for a contact that we made last Saturday. While we were passing out tracts and visiting in a subdivision last Saturday we meet a Thai family and talked with the husband named Mr. Thep.  Mr. Thep and his wife lived for several years in the states and have been living back in Thailand for 4 years.

We were using our limited Thai and then he started speaking some English and told us that he and his wife are saved and have went to a Baptist Church before but they have not been going anywhere now.  I am not sure if they went to the Baptist Church in the states or in Thailand so we invited him to come last Sunday and he said he would but they did not come.

Please pray when we follow-up on Mr. Thep and his wife this Saturday that we will be able to speak with him and that he will agree to ride with my family and I to church this Sunday. Pray that God will do a work in their hearts and will in His time unite them with the church.

Thank you for your time and prayers!

Dear Pastor and Praying Friends,

We want to thank each of you for your prayers, emails, cards, Christmas gifts, sacrificial giving to our setup and relocation fund, and monthly support!

As a result of your labor of love we finished deputation in 32 months and arrived in Chiang Mai, Thailand on December 31, 2009!

Since we arrived we have leased a house, bought a used car, and started language school. While we were accomplishing these things we found out that somethings are done differently than in the USA and somethings take longer to get accomplished. We are rejoicing that the Lord has helped us learn the Thai way of doing these things and has already allowed us to share with other missionaries finishing up deputation what we have learned.

While we have been learning our way around Chiang Mai we have had experiences with the language barrier. After we completed the process of buying our car we went to what I call one of the Thai versions of Walmart. The place where I parked the car I noticed a sign in English that said reserved VIP parking and a parking attendant was looking at me. I went to ask the parking attendant if it was fine that we parked there and he called another parking attendant and I asked again if it was fine that we parked there and they were both laughing because they understood absolutely nothing of what I was saying. We were glad that the car was still there when we finished shopping.

Please pray with us:

  1. As we are making our main priority to study and learn the Thai language so that we can effectively communicate the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the Thai people.
  2. The Lord is opening some doors of ministry at the New Life Baptist Church of Chiang Mai that we are attending. Please pray with us over these opportunities: First, that the Lord will give the increase as we are focusing in on some areas and are passing out tracts to every house and everyone we see and as we are trying to practice our limited Thai with them. Second, a possible door of opportunity of surveying different areas near Chiang Mai that do not have a Baptist Church. If the Lord opens this door, we will be teaching English with the purpose of making contacts and Lord willing in the future see a church started out of these contacts.
